Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan Ale
Speaking of freakin’ enormous storm surges: My brother-in-law, skiving off architecture school by building actual houses for actual people who actually need them at the Gulf Coast Community Design Studio in Biloxi, sent up a Mardi Gras care package that included several bottles of Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan ale.

On the one hand, I want to swear that I shun beers that contain ingredients other than water, malt, hops and yeast. On the other hand, my favorite beer for years has been Spotted Cow from New Glarus Brewing Company, which is amended with corn. Still, I took one look at this pecan beer and thought, “candy beer,” but ended up wrong. Whatever they’ve got going on there, it’s subtle. It winds up being very nicely balanced: malty, toasty. I never would have picked out the rogue nut esters. Crazy delicious.
Andrea Dezso
I have spent all day entranced by this image by Andrea Dezsö in this morning’s New York Times:
I have undoubtedly seen her illustrations elsewhere. I can’t imagine how I have overlooked them.
Her paper cutout animations also have my number in an alarming way. This one:

is implausibly similar to the vision I had when I was dropped on my head during a game of chicken a couple of years after watching Five Million Years to Earth at a fifty-cent kiddie matinee. (Click the image to watch the animation. Best use of sound ever.)
Time Machine Featured on Instructables Homepage
I built a video booth (same idea as a photo booth) where users can sit and read off a teleprompter screen and make short videos of themselves reading from my stories.
The project Instructable, Teleprompter Assisted Recording Device In Shipping crate, just got featured on the Instructables homepage!
I’m hoping to take this thing to Maker Faire, where I can put it to good use.
Boggle and Sneak Release Date: May 1, 2008
Lots of great Boggle and Sneak news!
I have been working with freelance editor Marisa Ring, and she has given me the green light to send the manuscript to the copy editor. Mozhi is working so hard on the illustrations that he has become completely obscured by a corona of splashing ink and wadded paper. Everything is on track for a May 1 release date of the free PDF and hardcover (via Lightning Source) editions.
Mark your calendars!
